Mariehamn
I am from Mariehamn in the Aland islands, that belongs to Finland. I am a educated physiotherapist and also work part time with media/press sportfishing/hunting at Aland visitors board. And i have been working as a fly fishing guide with Seatrout as my specialty.
When did you buy your first camera? What was it?
I bought my first camera when i was 15 it was a Canon of some kind, and i was using dia film. I had 2 lenses to start with 50mm and 120 mm
I have always been interested about how other photographers could do all this spectacular shots, that i saw in foto magazines. So i decided to learn how to take photos by learning from a friend, that was and still is a photographer. I have been into fly fishing for many years, and the interest of nature has been there all the time. And when i saw jumping big fishes i wanted to take pictures of them, so i did and sold quite many fishing pics to fishing magazines. Nowadays i still like to go fishing, but now i am more happy if i get back home with some lovely nature shots instead of fish.
My nowadays quite big backpack..Is packed with 3 camera houses, 5 lenses 14mm 15-30mm 40mm 50mm 70-200mm. and 2 tripods and one monopod, remote controls and lots of lens cleaners, flashes, headlamps, batteries, polaroid filters and different graduated greyfilters. And very often i have a compact Canon g16 with underwater house, for under water and rainy days.
“Nighttime is the right time”So my favorite genre is night-photography of almost everything i can find..My latest idea was to shoot with big machines in the foreground, with aurora or the milky-way as background. But i always think about new ways and motives, that why photography is so fantastic, you always find new ways !!I am also interested in astro-photography, and there i am using telescopes for taking pictures of for ex the Andromeda galaxy, and closeups of the moon, my favorite telescope is a Bresser refractor of 627 mm f4 that also can use for daytime photo if i need a long lens.
I am a half professional photographer right now, and i am planning to be a full-time photographer. I am studying right now to become a licensed nature photographer, this is a distance education, so i can still work. And suppose to be ready in June next year.
My favorite lens is the 15-30 that i use for both daytime photo and night photo, i like it because of the fact that it allows me to get a very wide field for night shots, and the possibility of changing up to 30mm without taking of the lens, in nighttime with a lot of moisture i don't want to open the camera more than absolutely necessary !
What all software/applications do you use to edit your pictures?
For night-photography i always use the manual setting, and for daytime or sunset i use manual and aperture priority, sometimes shutter priority mode, night-photo needs as much light i can get, so full opening all the time .
